About Mardi Gras
New Orleans signature celebration. Krewes organize parades with elaborate floats. Beads, doubloons, and moon pies are thrown from floats. Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday, the last day before Lent. The colors are purple (justice), gold (power), and green (faith). The first Mardi Gras in New Orleans was in 1699.
