About Cherry Blossom Festival
Celebrates the 1912 gift of cherry trees from Tokyo to Washington. The tidal basin becomes a pink wonderland. The National Cherry Blossom Festival runs for 4 weeks. Peak bloom lasts only a few days. The trees were nearly cut down during WWII anti-Japanese sentiment. Japan gifted 3,000 trees, most still standing.
