About Inti Raymi

The Inca Festival of the Sun, celebrating the winter solstice. Reenacted at Sacsayhuaman fortress above Cusco. Over 700 actors portray Inca ceremonies. The original festival was suppressed by Spanish conquistadors. Revived in 1944 as a cultural celebration. The second largest festival in South America after Carnival.
